Saturday, Oct. 19 marked the 34th annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade in New York City. The yearly event draws dozens of costumed canines to N.Y.C.'s East Village neighborhood. The dogs parade down the area's streets, and some receive prizes for their creative outfits. Like in past years, 2024 was filled with many adorable pup contestants and hundreds of eager onlookers.
The event originated at the Tompkins Square Dog Run, located in N.Y.C's Tompkins Square Park, but construction in the area has pushed the event onto Avenue A for the time being. For 2024, the parade ran along Avenue A from 13th to 7th Street.

Dressed-up dogs started lining up for the parade at noon on Oct. 19 before marching down the route around 1 p.m. local time. The aww-worthy attendees included pooches dressed as a pizza slice, Austin Powers and more.
Joseph Borduin — a commercial photographer and Tompkins Square Park Dog Run volunteer who has been organizing the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade since 2020 — plans to make 2024 his final year as the parade's organizer.
Bourdin told Gothamist that the volunteer role requires managing a growing number of logistical issues that are too numerous and complex for one person to manage.

"I need another, bigger entity to take over this beast because it's just too much for a small dog park to handle," Bourdin said to the outlet.
