Trolls get instant karma for trying to derail Trump's huge Madison Square Garden rally

Social media trolls are signing up to attend Donald Trump's Madison Square Garden rally with no intention of going, but the joke may be on them.

The ex-president's rally in the heart of Manhattan at the legendary arena may not win him the state of New York, but it will galvanize Trump's growing enthusiasm in the area - particularly among minority communities with whom his support has been surging recently.

Trump and his campaign hope to sell out the 19,500 seats at MSG on Sunday, October 27, but some are already threatening to derail the event.

Anti-Trumpers George Conway - the ex-husband of the former president's close advisor Kellyanne Conway - and Rick Wilson of the Lincoln Project - have suggested that their scores of X followers should sign up for the rally and not show up.

'Don’t miss President Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden!! Sign up here,' Conway posted on his X account seemingly beginning the scheme.

His self-avowed never-Trump friend Rick Wilson then reposted Conway's invitation to take up seats, adding sarcastically: 'Oh no. This is totally wrong to flood the zone on this. No one should do this.'

Conway then reposted Wilson, adding the event's specifics and offering ways for those protesting Trump's rally to get there using public transport.

'You’re right. I’m very, very sorry for encouraging people to sign up for Trump’s rally at 5:00 pm on October 27 at Madison Square Garden, 4 Penn Plaza in Manhattan (between West 31 and 33 Sts. and Seventh and Eighth Aves., readily accessible via the A, B, C, D, E, F, M, N, Q, R, W, 1, 2, and 3 trains, plus Amtrak, LIRR, NJ Transit and PATH),' Conway continued.

'And I urge people not to click this link and fill out the form,' he again wrote, posting the link to sign up for Trump's MSG event.

'I can’t believe you posted a link,' Wilson again responds in a public back-and-forth to ensure their nearly 4 million combined followers see their plan.

'People with no intention of attending the rally might end up filling out the form and that would just be so wrong,' Wilson's second post said.

Many of their followers followed the sarcastic instructions and signed up for the rally.

Some posting tongue-in-cheek follow-ups with screenshots of their confirmations from the Trump campaigns saying 'Thank you for registering.'

'Oops, looks like I've registered for two tickets for the trump rally in New York City!' Democratic X personality Brooklyn Dad Defiant, posted alongside his receipt.

'I sure hope I'm able to attend, because if not, those will be two more empty seats at his rally. And if everyone did that, wouldn't it be just terrible! You totally shouldn't take the two minutes it took me to do the exact same thing.'

The thing is, the event is first come first serve so it does not matter how many people sign up to 'reserve' a seat.

Whoever arrives at the stadium will get a seat until all available seats are occupied.

Those who register online but do not show up will have their seats given away.

But the Trump campaign does now get their sign up data and can add these new sign ups to their myriad lists.

Still, the plan may disrupt the Trump campaign's ability to estimate how many attendees are really going to show up.
