Bright Spot: One Square Mile of Hope

Rochester, N.Y.— Our Bright Spot shines on the return of a charitable cause.

For the first time in a decade, thousands of paddlers gathered Sept. 14 at Fourth Lake in the Adirondacks for the One Square Mile of Hope event, hosted by the Town of Inlet.

It raised more than $110,000 for a number of fire departments and charities, including some local causes.

The group traveled to the Rochester area last month to present $33,000 to Golisano Children's Hospital and $5,500 to the Kiwanis Club of Farmington-Victor.

Golisano will use $5,000 of the funds received for their “Campaign for Child and Adolescent Mental Health.”
